Vietnamese Fish Soup at the Purple Palace on Bellaire

A while back, Greenway Coffee had a small coffee shop located on North Main. And it was close to where I live, and I had the opportunity to get to know the people there. One of the young ladies had recommended to me a very interesting Bangladesh grocery store way out west on Bellaire, specializing in all types of fish. well, today was my first opportunity to come and check out Bangla Bazaar. And as luck would have it, I discovered. Bún Mǎm. Some further research into their specialty revealed it to be a southern Vietnam dish, a fish soup.

What immediately drew me in was the purple interior. Prince would have loved this place .

Because I was solo today, I chose a banh xeo.

But with the intention of returning soon to sample their specialty.

Venezuelan Bakery - Katy - Pan Pa Venezuela

 A recent road trip out west saw me in Katy. I recommend a visit. The downtown, old town as it were, has some excellent antique shops. Katy is home to Felix Flores's Cherry Block Butcher's and Market and also to the Midway barbecue restaurant and store (great sausages for sale).

And a little Venezuelan bakery opened about 9 months ago. I found it to be excellent. The focaccia was delicious. And the cream filled pastry was just perfect.

Ice Chests - Bargains at the Igloo Factory Outlet on I-10

 If you are heading out west past Katy on I-10, consider a stop at the Igloo Factory Outlet store, Igloo exit. Very good prices on all levels of ice chests. A fourth of the price of a YETI. And even cheaper than the Buc-Ee's current house brand. These photos were taken to show the current pricing in April of 2024. The last photos are of the the pricing for the Buc-Ee's house brand.

Chef Kenny's Vegan/Vegetarian Chinese Restaurant (and Sushi)

(Update July 2024: I've heard that they have closed, so check online before going)

 I've been coming here for years and I love it. You'll notice that the dishes say "beef, chicken, pork" but know that these are no meat, vegan versions for sure. When you walk in there is a request that no meat products be brought in.

The Chinese dishes are really good. As is the special Sushi Boat, chock full of enough goodies to satisfy four guys as an appetizer. On the most recent trip, we did the sushi boat and two entrees, about $29 per person including tax and tip and were totally full. 

Just a great place, even if you aren't vegan and just wanna do a night of veggies. Chef Kenny will help you choose, and, make the evening just that much better, with his hospitality and friendliness.

Two rice options: white rice or a mix with some red rice thrown into the mix. Which is our default.
